The department was established in 1967 under the headship of Dr. E. V. Upadye, an eminent teacher and researcher with only two faculty members. Since then, the department have made tremendous progress in every aspects of education, academics, research and extension activities. Currently the department is making progress under the headship of Mr. D. G. Bhadange, with seven potent faculty members.

Mr. Mangesh B. Bobade : He had worked on “Morphological studies of flora of Deccan Intertrapean beds of India” under the guidance of Dr. E. V. Upadhye and awarded Ph.D. by SGB, Amravati University, Amravati in 2006.
Miss. Pratiksha S. Kokate : She had worked on “Morphological studies of Intertrapean beds of Mohogaon kalan (MP), India.” under the guidance of Dr. E. V. Upadhye and awarded Ph.D. by SGB, Amravati University, Amravati. She is currently working as lecturer in Department of Botany, Shri Shivaji College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Akola
